Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
QUESTION:
Why does the dialer say there is no dial tone?
POSSIBLE SOLUTION(S):
The following could be reasons why the dialer would tell you there is no dial tone:
- The phone line is not plugged in. You must run a phone cord from the phone jack in the wall to the jack on the modem card on the back of your computer!
- The phone line is not not plugged into the TELCO or LINE jack of the modem. If there are multiple jacks on the modem card on the back of your computer, you must plug the cord into the jack labeled one of the following: TELCO or LINE
- The phone line is dead. Plug a regular phone into the phone jack for that phone line (on the wall). Make sure the line is okay and you get a dial tone. If you can't use that line with a regular phone, then you need to call your phone company!
- The modem is dead. Your modem may have become defective (normally due to a surge during a storm). The modem will need to be replaced!
